This week (January 15-22, 2017) is designated as Healthy Weight Week.  This health campaign is designed to draw attention away from unhealthy crash diets and crazy weight loss fads which are ever so popular around the first of the year and shift the focus towards the goal of being healthy and maintaining a healthy weight and a healthy self-image.

It is estimated that more than 21% of adults in the US made a New Year’s resolution to lose weight in 2017.  Over time, this focus on our ‘weight’ can cause damage to our self esteem. By moving our focus to the larger idea of becoming healthier, we are setting a positive goal instead of placing a label on ourselves that says ‘we’re not good enough’.

In the spirit of focusing on wellness and living a healthy lifestyle, LHS employees have started an initiative to encourage themselves and their fellow employees to G.E.T. F.I.T.  The acronym G.E.T. F.I.T stands for “Giving Extra Time for Individual Transformation”.

The simple goal of this program is to encourage each other to achieve the 2.5 hours of physical activity each week as suggested by the CDC. The good news is that this 2.5 hours per week does not need to be completed all at once.  Studies have shown that breaking down this activity into smaller chunks of time-  as small as 10 minute increments –  can still provide significant health benefits.

So Lincoln County – are you Giving Extra Time for Individual Transformation?  Share your ideas with us on how you G.E.T. F.I.T!
